  138. Chapter 2: Installation
  139. =======================

  141. The installation procedure needs Installer V43.3 or higher!

  143. Installer V43.3 is included with the Turboprint disk. If you are using the
  144. "MCP" utility, you will have to copy the new Installer to your hard disk
  145. or deactivate MCP temporarily.

  148. Installation on a Draco computer by MacroSystem
  149. -----------------------------------------------
  150.  
  151. Turboprint can be installed on a Draco computer. However, IrseeSoft can't 
  152. guarantee the functionality, as the Draco is not 100% Amiga compatible.
  153. Before you install Turboprint on a Draco, you must carry out the 
  154. "personalization" procedure on a regular Amiga, as the Draco can't write
  155. to Amiga floppy disks.

  158. Usage of Turboprint with a PicassoIV graphics card / the Picasso96 driver
  159. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

  161. In connection with older versions of the Picasso96 driver software the
  162. following problems may occur:
  163.  
  164. Problem: Printout from applications like FinalWriter, Wordworth, PageStream
  165.          is in wrong colours (e.g. background in dark green)
  166.  
  167. Solution: Install the latest version of Picasso96
  168.  
  169. Problem: Text display in the GraphicsPublisher is incorrect.
  170.          Text is invisible or charactes are "cut off".
  171.  
  172. Solution: Install the latest version of Picasso96
  173.           or choose a 16 or 24 bit screen in the GraphicsPublisher.

  176. Usage with the PD software 'Executive'

  179. If you use the task scheduler 'Executive', you have to make the following
  180. settings to be able to print from FinalWriter:

  224. Problems when printing
  225. ----------------------
  226.  
  227. If the text objects are being printed too small, there is probably not 
  228. enough free RAM memory available during printout. The wrong text size 
  229. is caused by a bug in the OS routines that generate CompuGraphic outline 
  230. fonts.
  231.  
  232. Solution: Make sure that there is enough memory available during printout 
  233. or open the GraphicsPublisher's settings requester and reduce the value
  234. "Text / Max.Print". Thus, text objects will be printed in slightly lower
  235. quality but in the correct size.
  236.  
  237.  
  238. Chapter 9: GNU Ghostscript
  239. ==========================
  240.  
  241. Turboprint comes with GNU Ghostscript 4.03, not the current 
  242. Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10. The reason for this is that the Aladdin
  243. license does not allow the bundling of Ghostscript with commercial
  244. software - the GNU licences allows this if some rules are respected.
  245.  
  246. Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10 from Aminet (internet or Aminet CDs) does NOT
  247. support 24bit printing with Turboprint, as the code for Turboprint support
  248. has to be compiled together with the other Ghostscript sources. A version
  249. of Ghostscript 5.10 with Turboprint support and also the sourcecode that
  250. has been added will be available on our WEB pages.

  254. Chapter 10: Hints for Printers
  255. ==============================
  256.  
  257. Canon BJC printers - head cleaning & cartridge alignment
  258. --------------------------------------------------------
  259. There is a "BJC-Utility" for newer BJC printers (BJC1000, BJC2000, BJC4200 
  260. and higher).
  261. The BJC-Utility is programmed as an "Installer" script, so make sure
  262. that Installer V43.3 or higher is accessible in the current drawer or
  263. "C:".
  264.  
  265. Canon BJ monochrome inkjet printers
  266. -----------------------------------
  267.  
  268. The emulation must be set to "Canon BJ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
  269. see your printer's manual).
  270. The international charset must be set to "Set 2" at the printer 
  271. (DIP switch).
  272. In TurboPrint, choose the driver "Canon_BJ".
  273.  
  274. Newer models (BJ-10ex, BJ-2xx, BJ-3xx) can also be used in EPSON LQ mode,
  275. which offers more fonts. To use EPSON LQ mode, the printer must be switched 
  276. to "LQ" mode (DIP switches, see your printer's manual). Choose the
  277. "Epson_LQ,SQ" driver in TurboPrint.
  278.  
  279. Canon BJC colour inkjet printers
  280. --------------------------------
  281.  
  282. The emulation must be set to "LQ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
  283. see your printer's manual).
  284.  
  285. Canon BJC - newer models without DIP switches (BJC 210/240/4100/4200, ...)
  286. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  287.  
  288. These printers must be configured to the "LQ-Europe/Asia" mode.
  289. The following procedure must be carried out once:
  290.  
  291. When switching on the printer, keep the POWER button pressed. Soon the 
  292. printer will start "beeping". Wait until you have heard 8 beep sounds, 
  293. then release the POWER button.
  294.  
  295. To check your printer's configuration, switch off the printer. Then keep 
  296. the POWER button pressed until you have heard 2 beep sounds. The printer 
  297. will then print a status sheet.
  298.  
  299. Canon BJC 240, 250, 4200 and 4300 with photo cartridge
  300. ------------------------------------------------------
  301.  
  302. Use the driver Canon_BJC240photo or Canon_BJC4200photo when printing with 
  303. the photo cartridge.
  304. For best printouts use the "Canon HR-101" or a similiar inkjet paper.
  305. Unfortunately, we don't know any glossy papers that are suitable for 
  306. printouts with the photo cartridge.
  307.  
  308. Canon BJC 1000, 2000, 6xxx, 7xxx
  309. --------------------------------
  310.  
  311. These printers have no built-in text mode at all.
  312. Text can be printed via Turboprint's "Text as Graphics" mode, which can
  313. be enabled in the "Turboprefs" settings menu, index card "Text" 
  314. (chapter 3.5 in the manual).
  315.  
  316. This only applies to programs that use the "text mode" like text editors 
  317. or DirOpus.
  318.  
  319. Canon BJC 6000/6100
  320. -------------------
  321.  
  322. - There are five density levels:
  323.  
  324.   180x180dpi - for draft printing only, saves ink
  325.  
  326.   360x360dpi - for drafts with a quite qood color 
  327.                reproduction
  328.  
  329.   360x360dpi + "drop modulation" (3 different drop sizes)

  420. The driver creates four spool file for the four colour components of a page.
  421. You can change the path of the spool files. Enter the path and filename
  422. in the text gadget "print to file" on the file card "printer".
  423. It is recommended to spool to a hard drive, as the spool files can become 
  424. very large.
  425.  
  426. Example: If you have entered "Name" = "Work:Prt",
  427. four spoolfiles named "Prt.0", "Prt.1", "Prt.2" and "Prt.3" will be 
  428. created on the hard drive partition named "Work:".
  429.  
  430. Epson Stylus Color Series
  431. -------------------------
  432.  
  433. The unprintable margin at the top of the paper can be set to 
  434. 0, 1 or 2 lines (index card Config / Printer-Settings).
  435.  
  436.  
  437. Epson Stylus Color II
  438. ---------------------
  439.  
  440. If you use plain paper, the black ink may bleed into the coloured inks.
  441. This effect depends on the kind of paper you use.
  442. To avoid bleeding, use an inkjet paper or choose the driver 
  443. "Epson_StylusColorIIs". This driver generates black by mixing yellow,
  444. magenta and cyan inks.
  445.  
  446.  
  447. Epson Stylus Color IIs
  448. ----------------------
  449.  
  450. For colour prints, choose the driver "Epson_StylusColorIIs".
  451. For b/w prints, choose the driver "Epson_Stylus820+IIs".
  452. The maximum resolution of the printer is 360x720dpi.
  453.  
  454.  
  455. Epson Stylus Color 400, 600, 800 and Photo
  456. ------------------------------------------
  457.  
  458. * Inkjet papers:
  459.   You can use all non-glossy inkjet papers with these printers.
  460.   In Turboprefs please choose "720dpi Paper" or "360dpi Paper".
  461.   Glossy inkjet papers: At the moment we can only recommend EPSON's
  462.   "High Quality Glossy Paper", "Glossy Film" or "Photo Paper". 
  463.   We have tested other glossy papers, but the ink doesn't dry.
  464.  
  465. * 1440dpi mode (only Stylus Color 600 und 800):
  466.   The 720x1440dpi mode must be enabled in the "printer settings".
  467.   The main benefit of the 1440dpi mode is a printout with almost no
  468.   visible "banding" effects.
  469.   In most application programs the 1440dpi mode is shown as 720x720dpi.
  470.   This is no error. To save time and buffer memory, print data is 
  471.   sent to the driver at 720x720dpi and then converted to 1440x720dpi. 
  472.   The printer operates at 1440dpi internally.
  473.  
  474.  
  475. Epson Stylus Color 300
  476. ----------------------
  477.  
  478. This printer has a very limited text mode, i.e. it prints only
  479. uppercase letters. This only applies to programs that use the
  480. "text mode" like text editors or DirOpus.
  481.  
  482. Please print text with a word processor like FinalWriter or WordWorth.
  483.  
  484.  
  485.  
  486. HP-Deskjet printers - Head cleaning & cartridge alignment
  487. ---------------------------------------------------------
  488. With the new DeskJet printers, it is no longer possible to start
  489. the print head cleaning or cartridge alignment procedure
  490. at the printer.
  491. For this purpose we programmed the "DeskJet-Utility" you can find
  492. in the "Extra" drawer of Turboprint.
  493.  
  494.  
  495. HP-Deskjet - 540C, 4xx, 6xx and 850/870/890
  496. -------------------------------------------
  497.  
  498. The maximum resolution of these printers (600x300dpi resp. 600x600dpi)
  499. can be used only for black&white printouts.
  500.  
  501. If you get b/w printouts instead of colour printouts when using
  502. applications like Final Writer or Wordworth, you will have
  503. to reduce the print resolution or "density" within the application.
  504.  
  505.  
  506. HP_Deskjet 880C,895C
  507. --------------------
  508.  
  509. These printers support real 600dpi color printing.
  510. At 600dpi, however, the printer's internal text mode
  511. is not available. Please switch to 300dpi or use the
  512. GfxTxt emulation mode that replaces text by graphics.
  513.  
  514.  
  515. HP-Deskjet 850C,870C,890C
  516. -------------------------
  517.  
  518. At 300x300dpi a "colour resolution enhancement technique" is used, 
  519. which varies the ink drop size and thus produces finer dithering.
  520.  
  521. If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
  522. poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the 
  523. paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
  524. black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.
  525.  
  526. The maximum color resolution is 300x300dpi with 4 different 
  527. dot sizes (looks almost like 600dpi printout) and not real 600dpi 
  528. as stated in the printer manual.
  529.  
  530.  
  531. HP_Deskjet 660C,690C,694C
  532. -------------------------
  533.  
  534. If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
  535. poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the 
  536. paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
  537. black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.
  538.  
  539.  
  540. HP_Deskjet 600C
  541. ---------------
  542.  
  543. If you use a "diffuse" dithering pattern, you should disable the switch
  544. "pure black". You will get more brilliant colours.
  545.  
  546.  
  547. HP Deskjet 690C,694C with photo cartridge
  548. -------------------------------------------
  549.  
  550. Use the driver "HP_DeskJet690,694photo" when printing with the photo 
  551. cartridge.
  552.  
  553. For best printouts use the "HP Photo Paper" or a non-glossy paper, e.g. 
  554. "HP Premium Inkjet Paper".
  555. Most other glossy papers will produce poor results.
  556.  
  557.  
  558.  
  559. Lexmark 4076 - ExecJet IIc
  560. --------------------------
  561.  
  562. Choose the "parallel" instead of the "turbo-par" port (filecard "printer")
  563. if printouts are slow.
  564. This is necessary because the printer's parallel interface doesn't use all
  565. control lines.
  566.  
  567.  
  568. Fargo Primera / Pro / FotoFUN
  569. -----------------------------
  570.  
  571. *** Important ***
  572.  
  573. The printer must receive data continuously. If printer pauses during
  574. the printout, a noticeable horizontal line will appear on the image. 
  575. For this reason, you should not disturb your Amiga while the printer is 
  576. active.
  577.  
  578. * FotoFUN:
  579.  
  580. The printer needs a very high parallel transfer rate that can't be achieved
  581. by Turboprint. Please redirect your printouts to a file and send the file
  582. to the parallel port using Fargo's "SendFFF" program. "SendFFF" is included
  583. in Fargo's Amiga driver disk.
  584.  
  585. * Spool files
  586.  
  587. The driver creates four spool file for the four colour components of a page.
  588. You can change the path of the spool files. Enter the path and filename
  589. in the text gadget "print to file" on the file card "printer".
  590. It is recommended to spool to a hard drive, as the spool files can become 
  591. very large.
  592.  
  593. Example: If you have entered "Name" = "Work:Prt",

  605. The heat produced by the print head can be changed by the "quality"
  606. gadget in Turboprefs.
  607. You might need to increase this setting if you print on plain paper
  608. (wax transfer mode).
  609. For the photorealistic mode we recommend heat setting 4 (medium).
  610.  
  611. * Ribbon type
  612.  
  613. There are 5 different ribbon types for the primera, which can be set
  614. using the "medium" switch in TurboPrefs (filecard "Config").
  615.  
  616. Monochrome:   wax transfer black
  617. 3-Colour:     wax transfer with yellow, magenta and cyan
  618. 4-Colour:                -"-   plus black
  619. Photo B/W:    b&w sublimation for photorealistic printouts
  620. Photo Colour: colour sublimation for photorealistic printouts
  621.  
  622. We recommed to choose "3-Colour" setting even for 4-Colour ribbon. 
  623. This produces more brilliant colours.
  624.  
  625. * 600-DPI
  626.  
  627. We do not recommend the 600dpi mode, as it is very slow and produces
  628. printouts that are almost identical to the 300dpi mode.
  629.  
  630.  
  631.  
  632. Chapter 11: Hints for applications
  633. ==================================
  634.  
  635. Final Writer / Wordworth
  636. ------------------------
  637.  
  638. Please also read the notes in your manual on page 88.
  639.  
  640. Possible problems and their solution:
  641.  
  642. * Printout is slow
  643.  
  644.   You are probably printing in the highest resolution.
  645.   FW / WW have their own resolution setting which overrides the
  646.   setting in Turboprefs. In FinalWriter, open the "Print..." requester
  647.   and set the resolution in the "Graphics..." section.
  648.   In WordWorth, choose "Print Settings" and select the resolution using
  649.   the "Density" slider.
  650.  
  651. * Printout shows weird patterns only
  652.  
  653.   If you have installed a PicassoIV graphics board, please obtain the
  654.   latest Picasso96 driver update.
  655.  
  656. * FinalWriter hangs after a part of the page has been printed
  657.  
  658.   If you use the PD software "Executive", please read the notes in section
  659.   2 of this file.
  660.  
  661.
