- your reports.
-
-
- Driver notes:
-
- Epson Stylus Color / Photo
-
- - For quick printing of text documents with a mix of black text and
- coloured text or colour images, a resolution of 360 dpi is recommended.
- In this mode, additional black ink nozzles will be activated for
- those parts of the page, where only black text is present.

- Additions to Chapter...
-
-
- Chapter 2: Installation
- =======================
-
- The installation procedure needs Installer V43.3 or higher!
- --------------------------
- Installer V43.3 is included with the Turboprint disk. If you are using the
- "MCP" utility, you will have to copy the new Installer to your hard disk
- or deactivate MCP temporarily.
-
-
- Installation on a Draco computer by MacroSystem
- -----------------------------------------------
-
- Turboprint can be installed on a Draco computer. However, IrseeSoft can't
- guarantee the functionality, as the Draco is not 100% Amiga compatible.
- Before you install Turboprint on a Draco, you must carry out the
- "personalization" procedure on a regular Amiga, as the Draco can't write
- to Amiga floppy disks.
-
-
- Usage of Turboprint with a PicassoIV graphics card / the Picasso96 driver
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- In connection with older versions of the Picasso96 driver software the
- following problems may occur:
-
- Problem: Printout from applications like FinalWriter, Wordworth, PageStream
- is in wrong colours (e.g. background in dark green)
-
- Solution: Install the latest version of Picasso96
-
- Problem: Text display in the GraphicsPublisher is incorrect.
- Text is invisible or charactes are "cut off".
-
- Solution: Install the latest version of Picasso96
- or choose a 16 or 24 bit screen in the GraphicsPublisher.
-
-
- Usage with the PD software 'Executive'
- --------------------------------------
-
- If you use the task scheduler 'Executive', you have to make the following
- settings to be able to print from FinalWriter:
-
- Add a new rule in the Executive editor:
- Task = FinalWriter
- Parameter = TASk+CHILDTASK and NOSCHEDULE
- Priority = Leave it alone
-
-
- Chapter 3.2: TurboPrefs - Index Card "Config"
- =============================================
-
- Changed settings for some printer drivers
- -----------------------------------------
- (Canon BJC 1000, 2000, 6xxx, 7100):
-
- - The setting "Quality" has been replaced by "Cartridge" -
- "Cartridge" is used to switch between 4 color and
- photo cartridge.
-
- - The setting "Density" now combines the print
- resolution (dots per inch) selection and the
- quallity selection (low, medium, high, ...).
- I.e. the quality is selected and an info box
- below the "Density" cycle gadget gives
- information on the print resolution and method
- (i.e. ink save mode, drop modulation mode, ...).
-
- - The paper size selection now includes printer
- specific sizes, e.g. envelopes or "banner paper".
-
-
- Chapter 7: GraphicsPublisher
- ============================
-
- Changed print menu for some printer drivers
- -------------------------------------------
- (Canon BJC 1000, 2000, 6xxx, 7100):
-
- - Additional information on the selected print density
- is available in the "Print" window.
-
- - Additional printer specific paper sizes are available
- in the "Page setup" window.
-
- Problems when printing
- ----------------------
-
- If the text objects are being printed too small, there is probably not
- enough free RAM memory available during printout. The wrong text size
- is caused by a bug in the OS routines that generate CompuGraphic outline
- fonts.
-
- Solution: Make sure that there is enough memory available during printout
- or open the GraphicsPublisher's settings requester and reduce the value
- "Text / Max.Print". Thus, text objects will be printed in slightly lower
- quality but in the correct size.
-
-
- Chapter 9: GNU Ghostscript
- ==========================
-
- Turboprint comes with GNU Ghostscript 4.03, not the current
- Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10. The reason for this is that the Aladdin
- license does not allow the bundling of Ghostscript with commercial
- software - the GNU licences allows this if some rules are respected.
-
- Aladdin Ghostscript 5.10 from Aminet (internet or Aminet CDs) does NOT
- support 24bit printing with Turboprint, as the code for Turboprint support
- has to be compiled together with the other Ghostscript sources. A version
- of Ghostscript 5.10 with Turboprint support and also the sourcecode that
- has been added will be available on our WEB pages.
-
-
-
- Chapter 10: Hints for Printers
- ==============================
-
- Canon BJC printers - head cleaning & cartridge alignment
- --------------------------------------------------------
- There is a "BJC-Utility" for newer BJC printers (BJC1000, BJC2000, BJC4200
- and higher).
- The BJC-Utility is programmed as an "Installer" script, so make sure
- that Installer V43.3 or higher is accessible in the current drawer or
- "C:".
-
- Canon BJ monochrome inkjet printers
- -----------------------------------
-
- The emulation must be set to "Canon BJ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
- see your printer's manual).
- The international charset must be set to "Set 2" at the printer
- (DIP switch).
- In TurboPrint, choose the driver "Canon_BJ".
-
- Newer models (BJ-10ex, BJ-2xx, BJ-3xx) can also be used in EPSON LQ mode,
- which offers more fonts. To use EPSON LQ mode, the printer must be switched
- to "LQ" mode (DIP switches, see your printer's manual). Choose the
- "Epson_LQ,SQ" driver in TurboPrint.
-
- Canon BJC colour inkjet printers
- --------------------------------
-
- The emulation must be set to "LQ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
- see your printer's manual).
-
- Canon BJC - newer models without DIP switches (BJC 210/240/4100/4200, ...)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- These printers must be configured to the "LQ-Europe/Asia" mode.
- The following procedure must be carried out once:
-
- When switching on the printer, keep the POWER button pressed. Soon the
- printer will start "beeping". Wait until you have heard 8 beep sounds,
- then release the POWER button.
-
- To check your printer's configuration, switch off the printer. Then keep
- the POWER button pressed until you have heard 2 beep sounds. The printer
- will then print a status sheet.
-
- Canon BJC 240, 250, 4200 and 4300 with photo cartridge
- ------------------------------------------------------
-
- Use the driver Canon_BJC240photo or Canon_BJC4200photo when printing with
- the photo cartridge.
- For best printouts use the "Canon HR-101" or a similiar inkjet paper.
- Unfortunately, we don't know any glossy papers that are suitable for
- printouts with the photo cartridge.
-
- Canon BJC 1000, 2000, 6xxx, 7xxx
- --------------------------------
-
- These printers have no built-in text mode at all.
- Text can be printed via Turboprint's "Text as Graphics" mode, which can
- be enabled in the "Turboprefs" settings menu, index card "Text"
- (chapter 3.5 in the manual).
-
- This only applies to programs that use the "text mode" like text editors
- or DirOpus.
-
- Canon BJC 6000/6100
- -------------------
-
- - There are five density levels:
-
- 180x180dpi - for draft printing only, saves ink
-
- 360x360dpi - for drafts with a quite qood color
- reproduction
-
- 360x360dpi + "drop modulation" (3 different drop sizes)
- for final printouts on plain paper
- especially for black & white documents
- of documents with text + graphics
- (very high speed when black & white
- parts of page are printed)
-
- 720x720dpi - for final printouts on inkjet paper
-
- 1440x720dpi - for maximum print quality on inkjet paper
-
- - Set the Cartridge gadget to "Color" if the black
- cartridge is used and to "Photo" if the photo cartridge
- is used (left print head, the right print head always
- carries a 3-color cartridge).
-
-
- Canon BJC 7100
- --------------
-
- - There are six density levels:
-
- 300x300dpi inksave - for draft printing only
-
- 300x300dpi - for drafts with a quite good color
- reproduction
-
- 300x300dpi + "drop modulation" (4 different drop sizes)
- - for final printouts on plain paper
-
- 600x600dpi quick - for black & white documents
- or documents with text + graphics
- (very high speed when black & white
- parts of page are printed)
-
- 600x600dpi - for final printouts on inkjet paper
-
- 1200x600dpi - for maximum print quality,
- only available on inkjet paper
-
- - Set the Cartridge gadget to "Color" if the 3-color
- cartridge is used and to "Photo" if the 6-color
- cartridge is used (right print head, the left print
- head always carries a black cartridge).
-
- Canon BJC 2000
- --------------
-
- - There are five density levels:
-
- 180x180dpi - for draft printing only, saves ink
-
- 360x360dpi Quick - for drafts with a quite qood color
- reproduction
- recommended for black & white documents or
- for documents with text + graphics
- (high speed when black & white
- parts of page are printed)
-
- 360x360dpi -
-
- 720x360dpi -
-
- 360x360dpi + "drop modulation" (3 different drop sizes)
- highest quality - quality is actually
- higher than at 720x360dpi
-
- Canon BJC 1000
- --------------
-
- - There are three density levels:
-
- 180x180dpi - for draft printing only, saves ink
-
- 360x360dpi Quick - for drafts with a quite qood color
- reproduction
- recommended for black & white documents or
- for documents with text + graphics
- (high speed when black & white
- parts of page are printed)
-
- 360x360dpi - highest quality
-
-
- Citizen Printiva600c
- --------------------
-
- When making colour printouts, please note the following:
-
- * Spool files
-
- The driver creates four spool file for the four colour components of a page.
- You can change the path of the spool files. Enter the path and filename
- in the text gadget "print to file" on the file card "printer".
- It is recommended to spool to a hard drive, as the spool files can become
- very large.
-
- Example: If you have entered "Name" = "Work:Prt",
- four spoolfiles named "Prt.0", "Prt.1", "Prt.2" and "Prt.3" will be
- created on the hard drive partition named "Work:".
-
- Epson Stylus Color Series
- -------------------------
-
- The unprintable margin at the top of the paper can be set to
- 0, 1 or 2 lines (index card Config / Printer-Settings).
-
-
- Epson Stylus Color II
- ---------------------
-
- If you use plain paper, the black ink may bleed into the coloured inks.
- This effect depends on the kind of paper you use.
- To avoid bleeding, use an inkjet paper or choose the driver
- "Epson_StylusColorIIs". This driver generates black by mixing yellow,
- magenta and cyan inks.
-
-
- Epson Stylus Color IIs
- ----------------------
-
- For colour prints, choose the driver "Epson_StylusColorIIs".
- For b/w prints, choose the driver "Epson_Stylus820+IIs".
- The maximum resolution of the printer is 360x720dpi.
-
-
- Epson Stylus Color 400, 600, 800 and Photo
- ------------------------------------------
-
- * Inkjet papers:
- You can use all non-glossy inkjet papers with these printers.
- In Turboprefs please choose "720dpi Paper" or "360dpi Paper".
- Glossy inkjet papers: At the moment we can only recommend EPSON's
- "High Quality Glossy Paper", "Glossy Film" or "Photo Paper".
- We have tested other glossy papers, but the ink doesn't dry.
-
- * 1440dpi mode (only Stylus Color 600 und 800):
- The 720x1440dpi mode must be enabled in the "printer settings".
- The main benefit of the 1440dpi mode is a printout with almost no
- visible "banding" effects.
- In most application programs the 1440dpi mode is shown as 720x720dpi.
- This is no error. To save time and buffer memory, print data is
- sent to the driver at 720x720dpi and then converted to 1440x720dpi.
- The printer operates at 1440dpi internally.
-
-
- Epson Stylus Color 300
- ----------------------
-
- This printer has a very limited text mode, i.e. it prints only
- uppercase letters. This only applies to programs that use the
- "text mode" like text editors or DirOpus.
-
- Please print text with a word processor like FinalWriter or WordWorth.
-
-
-
- HP-Deskjet printers - Head cleaning & cartridge alignment
- ---------------------------------------------------------
- With the new DeskJet printers, it is no longer possible to start
- the print head cleaning or cartridge alignment procedure
- at the printer.
- For this purpose we programmed the "DeskJet-Utility" you can find
- in the "Extra" drawer of Turboprint.
-
-
- HP-Deskjet - 540C, 4xx, 6xx and 850/870/890
- -------------------------------------------
-
- The maximum resolution of these printers (600x300dpi resp. 600x600dpi)
- can be used only for black&white printouts.
-
- If you get b/w printouts instead of colour printouts when using
- applications like Final Writer or Wordworth, you will have
- to reduce the print resolution or "density" within the application.
-
-
- HP_Deskjet 880C,895C
- --------------------
-
- These printers support real 600dpi color printing.
- At 600dpi, however, the printer's internal text mode
- is not available. Please switch to 300dpi or use the
- GfxTxt emulation mode that replaces text by graphics.
-
-
- HP-Deskjet 850C,870C,890C
- -------------------------
-
- At 300x300dpi a "colour resolution enhancement technique" is used,
- which varies the ink drop size and thus produces finer dithering.
-
- If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
- poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the
- paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
- black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.
-
- The maximum color resolution is 300x300dpi with 4 different
- dot sizes (looks almost like 600dpi printout) and not real 600dpi
- as stated in the printer manual.
-
-
- HP_Deskjet 660C,690C,694C
- -------------------------
-
- If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
- poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the
- paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
- black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.
-
-
- HP_Deskjet 600C
- ---------------
-
- If you use a "diffuse" dithering pattern, you should disable the switch
- "pure black". You will get more brilliant colours.
-
-
- HP Deskjet 690C,694C with photo cartridge
- -------------------------------------------
-
- Use the driver "HP_DeskJet690,694photo" when printing with the photo
- cartridge.
-
- For best printouts use the "HP Photo Paper" or a non-glossy paper, e.g.
- "HP Premium Inkjet Paper".
- Most other glossy papers will produce poor results.
-
-
-
- Lexmark 4076 - ExecJet IIc
- --------------------------
-
- Choose the "parallel" instead of the "turbo-par" port (filecard "printer")
- if printouts are slow.
- This is necessary because the printer's parallel interface doesn't use all
- control lines.
-
-
- Fargo Primera / Pro / FotoFUN
- -----------------------------
-
- *** Important ***
-
- The printer must receive data continuously. If printer pauses during
- the printout, a noticeable horizontal line will appear on the image.
- For this reason, you should not disturb your Amiga while the printer is
- active.
-
- * FotoFUN:
-
- The printer needs a very high parallel transfer rate that can't be achieved
- by Turboprint. Please redirect your printouts to a file and send the file
- to the parallel port using Fargo's "SendFFF" program. "SendFFF" is included
- in Fargo's Amiga driver disk.
-
- * Spool files
-
- The driver creates four spool file for the four colour components of a page.
- You can change the path of the spool files. Enter the path and filename
- in the text gadget "print to file" on the file card "printer".
- It is recommended to spool to a hard drive, as the spool files can become
- very large.
-
- Example: If you have entered "Name" = "Work:Prt",
- four spoolfiles named "Prt.0", "Prt.1", "Prt.2" and "Prt.3" will be created
- on the hard drive partition named "Work:".
-
- * Printing of several pictures on one page
-
- Normally one page will be used per picture.
- Using the GraphicsPublisher, however, you can print several pictures on
- one page.
-
- * Heat
-
- The heat produced by the print head can be changed by the "quality"
- gadget in Turboprefs.
- You might need to increase this setting if you print on plain paper
- (wax transfer mode).
- For the photorealistic mode we recommend heat setting 4 (medium).
-
- * Ribbon type
-
- There are 5 different ribbon types for the primera, which can be set
- using the "medium" switch in TurboPrefs (filecard "Config").
-
- Monochrome: wax transfer black
- 3-Colour: wax transfer with yellow, magenta and cyan
- 4-Colour: -"- plus black
- Photo B/W: b&w sublimation for photorealistic printouts
- Photo Colour: colour sublimation for photorealistic printouts
-
- We recommed to choose "3-Colour" setting even for 4-Colour ribbon.
- This produces more brilliant colours.
-
- * 600-DPI
-
- We do not recommend the 600dpi mode, as it is very slow and produces
- printouts that are almost identical to the 300dpi mode.
-
-
-
- Chapter 11: Hints for applications
- ==================================
-
- Final Writer / Wordworth
- ------------------------
-
- Please also read the notes in your manual on page 88.
-
- Possible problems and their solution:
-
- * Printout is slow
-
- You are probably printing in the highest resolution.
- FW / WW have their own resolution setting which overrides the
- setting in Turboprefs. In FinalWriter, open the "Print..." requester
- and set the resolution in the "Graphics..." section.
- In WordWorth, choose "Print Settings" and select the resolution using
- the "Density" slider.
-
- * Printout shows weird patterns only
-
- If you have installed a PicassoIV graphics board, please obtain the
- latest Picasso96 driver update.
-
- * FinalWriter hangs after a part of the page has been printed
-
- If you use the PD software "Executive", please read the notes in section
- 2 of this file.
-
-
-
- Final Writer / WordWorth with HP Deskjet
- ---------------------------------------
-
- * Top margin is too large on the first printed page
-
- We recommend to set the top text margin to zero (TurboPrefs, file card
- "Text"). This way you will get the correct top margin.
-
- * Printout is in b/w only.
-
- If you get b/w printouts instead of colour printouts on a DeskJet
- 540/660/850 you will have to reduce the print resolution
- (see "Hints for printers").
-
-
- -END-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
